Mohr’s circle of stresses is a graphical method devised by a German scientist Otto Mohr for finding out the normal, shear and resultant stresses on any point of a material subjected to two-dimensional stress system.

Applications
Mohr’s circle is a graphical method of determining principd stresses and their direction, normal, shear and resultant stresses on a material subjected to combined loading. Mohr’s circle of stresses can be used in following cases –

(i) A body subjected to a direct stress in one plane.

(ii) A body subjected to direct stresses in two mutually perpendicular directions.

(iii) A body subjected to a simple shear stress.

(iv) A body subjected to a direct stress in one plane along with a Simple shear stress.

(V) A bOdy subjected to direct stresses in two mutually perpendicular ions along With a simple shear stress.
